Latest updates on Android 11

Android 11 is live, here are the interesting features so far Google released the next version of Android ahead of schedule late last night. This is the first time the first developer preview has been made public before March.   The company generally releases previews for its operating system ahead of its developer event -- Google I/O.  Android 11, as the operating system will be called, brings new features but doesn’t change the user interface for the operating system. Perhaps, the most important in the line of updates is the fact that Android will now allow users to grant a one-time location access option to apps, similar to Apple’s iOS’ “Allow Once" option. This means you can take away location access for every app you use and allow them to access the GPS history only when they need it. The move will be a problem for various apps that make money from selling user location data, like Foursquare. However, it’s a good move for users who have been plagued by location...

" XenoBot" World's first living Robot

Living robots built using frog cells "XenoBot" world's first living Robot                     Fisrt look of a "Xenobot" Tiny 'xenobots' assembled from cells promise advances from drug delivery to toxic waste clean-up Now a team of scientists has repurposed living cells -- scraped from frog embryos -- and assembled them into entirely new life-forms. These millimeter-wide "xenobots" can move toward a target, perhaps pick up a payload (like a medicine that needs to be carried to a specific place inside a patient) -- and heal themselves after being cut. "These are novel living machines," says Joshua Bongard, a computer scientist and robotics expert at the University of Vermont who co-led the new research. "They're neither a traditional robot nor a known species of animal. It's a new class of artifact: a living, programmable organism." The new creatures were designed on a supercomputer at UVM -- and then assem...

The Pursuit of HappYness

Image
The Pursuit of HappYness A fairy tale in realist drag, “The Pursuit of Happyness” is the kind of entertainment that goes down smoothly until it gets stuck in your craw. Inspired by a true story, as they like to say in Hollywood, the film traces the fleeting ups and frightening downs of Chris Gardner, whose efforts to keep his family from sinking into poverty evolve into a life-and-death struggle of social Darwinian proportions. It’s the early 1980s, and while Ronald Reagan is delivering the bad economic news on television, Chris is about to prove you don’t need an army to fight the war on poverty, just big smiles and smarts, and really sturdy shoes. (It also helps that the star playing him is as innately sympathetic as Will Smith.) Given how often Chris breaks into a run on the streets of San Francisco, it’s a good thing his shoes are well built; his lungs, too. Written by Steven Conrad and directed by Gabriele Muccino, “The Pursuit of Happyness” recounts how Chris, plagued...
